WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman pitcher
Sarah Davis (Walter Williams H.S./Burlington, N.C.) tallied a pair of hits, but it was not enough as UNCW (11-8) suffered a pair of losses against Campbell (16-11) at Boseman Field on Tuesday evening.
The Seahawks, who had a five-game home win streak snapped, dropped the first game by an 8-3 margin before losing by a 6-1 count in the nightcap.
Davis, who also threw 4.0 innings in the second game, tallied a hit in each contest. Senior
Casey Rowland (Colonie Central H.S./Albany, N.Y.) drove in a run during the first game with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Senior infielder
Ericka Nesbitt (East Rowan H.S./Salisbury, N.C.) led the Camels by recording five hits with three runs scored and a run batted in. She went 2-for-5 in the first game before collecting three hits, including a pair of doubles, with two runs scored in the nightcap.
The Camels used a pair of solid pitching performances to earn the doubleheader sweep. Senior
Julia Callicutt (Southwestern Randolph H.S./Asheboro, N.C.) scatted six hits while allowing one earned run in the first game with eight strikeouts. In the second game, sophomore
Katie Baker (St. Stephens H.S./Hickory, N.C.) limited UNCW to just two hits and allowed an unearned run with seven strikeouts. Â
How It Happened – Game 1: The Camels scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build a 6-0 advantage. UNCW struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on RBI singles by Rowland and sophomore
Merritt Wilkinson (Western Alamance H.S./Burlington, N.C.). However, Campbell added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory. Â Â Â
How It Happened – Game 2: Campbell jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first two innings, including three runs in the top of the first inning. The Camels added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning before Wilkinson scored on a stolen base and throwing error by the Camels to end the shutout bid.
Notes of Interest: Nesbitt extended her hitting streak to 11 straight game for the Camels … Campbell has now won three of its last four games … UNCW is now 10-4 at Boseman Field this year … Davis has posted a hit in eight of her last nine games … Sophomore
Peyton Jordan (Marvin Ridge H.S./Waxhaw, N.C.) threw 3.0 scoreless innings of relief in the second game, lowering her earned run average to 1.52 … Jordan has allowed just two earned runs in her last eight appearances with 24 strikeouts and just four walks.  Â
What's Ahead for UNCW: The Seahawks continue their seven-game homestand this weekend with their first Colonial Athletic Association series of the season against Hofstra. UNCW will host the Pride for a pair of games on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. before a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
