No. 12 Duke Thwarts Seahawks' Upset Bid, 78-56

DURHAM, North Carolina – UNCW trailed No. 12 Duke by just one point after the first quarter, but the Blue Devils pulled away with a strong second quarter to earn a 78-56 victory over the Seahawks in the non-conference finale for both teams at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
 
The loss dropped the Seahawks' record to 4-7 on the season while Duke improved to 11-3 after claiming its third win in the last four games.   
 
Sophomore guard Rebecca Greenwell led the Blue Devils with a game-high 23 points after shooting 9-for-15 from the field, including a 5-for-8 effort from three-point range. She also added a season-high nine rebounds.
 
Sophomore forward Azura Stevens contributed 11 points for Duke by making four of eight field goal attempts and three of four free throws.
 
Junior guard Naqaiyyah Teague paced the Seahawks with 14 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. She made 5 of 11 shots from the floor and all four of her free throws to reach double figures for the fifth time in the last six games.
 
Senior guard Shatia Cole added 11 points off the bench with six rebounds and three assists.
 
Led by a game-high 10 rebounds from sophomore center Rebekah Banks, who returned to her hometown, the Seahawks outrebounded Duke by a 39-35 margin, including 20 offensive rebounds.
 
How It Happened: After battling to a 20-19 advantage after the opening stanza, the Blue Devils outscored UNCW by an 18-7 margin to pull away for a 38-26 lead at the intermission. Duke never trailed in the game and led by as many as 31 points midway through the fourth quarter before UNCW scored 11 of the final 13 points to end the game. 

#SeahawkStats: Duke and UNCW met for the 12th time in a series the Blue Devils lead by a 10-2 margin … Duke is now 7-0 all-time against UNCW at Cameron Indoor Stadium and has won six straight over its in-state rivals … Banks posted 10 or more rebounds for the third time in the last four games … UNCW became the third opponent to win the rebounding battle against Duke this season … The Seahawks tied a season high with 20 offensive rebounds … The Seahawks matched a season high by scoring 19 points in the first quarter … UNCW shot an impressive 11-for-12 from the free throw line after making just four of nine tries in its previous two games … Duke has scored 70 or more points in 10 of its 14 games this season … UNCW committed a season-high 22 turnovers against the Blue Devils … For the second straight game, the Seahawks posted more bench points than their opponent with a 23-20 edge.
