Peacock Dominant As UNCW Rolls Past Blue Hens

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Fueled by a match-high 13 kills from Meredith Peacock and nine kills apiece from Nicole Lott and Katie McCullough, UNCW rolled past visiting Delaware, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18) on Monday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks raised their record to 12-4 with the win and finished their homestand with a 6-1 mark. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, dropped their third consecutive conference outing to dip to 0-3 and 8-8 overall.

Monday's match marked the return of volleyball to Trask Coliseum for the first time since 1999. The Seahawks moved to Hanover Hall that season and have played there since. UNCW will play one more regular season match in Trask when it hosts Towson on Oct. 16.

Peacock had seven of her kills in the second set as UNCW combined to hit .467 (16-2-30) in a 25-14 win. Lott added five and McCullough three kills in the set. UNCW outhit the Blue Hens, .243-.084, on the match.

Lott paced three Seahawks in double digit digs with 16. Morgan Owney and Lindsay Hartmann chipped in 11 digs apiece. Kristen Powell and Peacock had five blocks each and Sarah Kelly added four as UNCW outblocked UD, 9-6.

Katie Hillman had 10 kills for UD and tied for the match high with 16 digs. Alexa Swann hit .429 with seven kills and added four blocks. Including three solo. Ariel Shonk had 16 digs.

Up next: The Seahawks visit William & Mary for a 7 p.m. start on Oct. 9 in Williamsburg.

How it happened: The Seahawks combined for just 11 hitting errors on the match while forcing UD into 21. The Blue Hens didn't help themselves though by committing seven service aces.

Notes: UNCW has won five of its last six matches against Delaware … The sweep snapped a string of three straight matches that went to five sets … UNCW is 8-1 in sweeps … The Seahawks improved to 31-12 when outblocking opponents over the past two seasons … UNCW moved into a tie for third in the league with Towson, both programs are 3-1 … Monday was win number 96 for UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek.
