Kline Named MVP As UNCW Rolls Past Eastern Washington In Sweep

Meredith Peacock joined Morgan Kline on the all-tournament squad

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by tournament most valuable player Morgan Kline's 14 kills, UNCW closed out the Hilton Garden Inn Wilmington Mayfaire Showcase with a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Washington on Sunday at Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks finished the opening weekend with a 3-1 mark while the Eagles dropped to .500 at 2-2.

Kline held match-high honors with her 14 kills as UNCW out-hit the Eagles, .261-.094, for the match. Meredith Peacock and Kaityln Cobb, who was making her collegiate debut, each added six kills. Freshman Sydney Brock led UNCW at the net with eight total blocks as the Seahawk dominated the front line with 13 blocks on the match.

 All-Tournament selection Allie Schumacher led the Eagles with 11 kills and completed a double-double with 10 digs. Ashlee Vaoifi held match-high honors with 13 digs.

The first set saw five lead changes and 10 ties before the Seahawks pulled away late scoring five of the final seven points for the win.

UNCW hit .387 in the middle set led by Kline's four kills and in the final set, the Seahawks broke a 12-all deadlock with an 8-2 run for a 20-14 lead.

Up Next For UNCW: The Seahawks head to Greenville, N.C. for the East Carolina Invitational. They'll open with Morgan State on Friday at 10 a.m. and close out the trip with a 1 p.m. start against Norfolk State on Saturday, followed by a 4 p.m. match against Tennessee Tech.

Notes: Kline chalked up a double-double with 10 digs … She also finished the weekend with 43 kills … Lindsay Hartmann paced the Seahawks with 11 digs from the libero position … Setter Alyssa Desjardins handed out 21 assists while Victoria Phillips and Hartmann added nine and six, respectively … Defensively, Meredith Peacock topped the Seahawks with 23 blocks as UNCW out-blocked its opponents 45-25 … UNCW is now 1-0 against Eastern Washington … Sydney Brock made an impact at the net, totaling 20 blocks in her first four matches.
