Cougars Too Much For VolleyHawks In Sweep

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – Alyssa Desjardins posted a double-double of 15 assists and 14 digs, but the College of Charleston avenged an early season loss to UNCW with a 3-0 sweep of the Seahawks on Friday at TD Arena.

The Cougars won their sixth straight, improved to 20-8 overall and remained tied with Hofstra for first in the Colonial Athletic Association with an 11-2 record. The Seahawks, who saw their four-match winning streak come to a halt, dipped to 19-9 and 9-5 in the league.

"Even though the stats and scores don't reflect it, we played with a lot of fight and desire the entire match," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We know we have a talented team and need to make sure we move forward from this with an optimistic outlook for our final weekend of the regular season."

Morgan Kline's seven kills led UNCW, but the Seahawks struggled offensively, hitting -.024 (25-28-125). Nicole Lott and Meredith Peacock added five kills apiece. Peacock also recorded five total blocks, including three block assists. She is now the career leader at UNCW with 326 during her three seasons.

Melissa Morello and Sloane White paced the Cougars with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Cara Howley hit .471 with nine kills in 17 attacks.

Charleston owned the net, outblocking the Seahawks, 13-10, and held a narrow 60-57 lead in digs. Kallie McKown (17a, 16d) and White (11k, 13d) posted double-doubles. Andi Zbojniewicz held match-high honors with 19 digs.

Up Next: The Seahawks close out the regular season with a trip to the mid-Atlantic region beginning on Nov. 14 at Towson with a 7 p.m. start.

Notes: The Seahawks hit in the negatives for the first time this season and the first time since 9/28/13 at Northeastern … Peacock entered the match tied with Amy Chilausky (1990-93) for the all-time lead with 323 block assists … UNCW swept the Cougars on 10/15/14 in Hanover Hall … The Seahawks remain in fourth-place with two matches to be played.
