Nationally-Ranked Seahawks Host Charleston Wednesday In Colonial Showdown

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After appearing in all four major polls, the UNCW men's soccer team looks to conclude its recent homestand on a high note when College of Charleston visits the UNCW Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday.

The Seahawks enter the week ranked 22nd in both the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer polls, 23rd in the Soccer America poll and 25th in the NSCAA Coaches poll released on Tuesday. The NCAA also released its second edition of the RPI report and the Seahawks moved up to 17th following a win over UNC Chapel Hill and a loss to Delaware.

Senior midfielder Jamie Dell, who hails from Chapel Hill, N.C., led the Seahawks to a win last week with two goals, including the game-winner against the nationally-ranked Tar Heels. With the victory, the Seahawks ran their winning streak to six overall and two straight against UNC Chapel Hill.

Delaware brought that streak to a halt on Saturday with a goal in the final minute of the second overtime for a 1-0 win. The Seahawks controlled play throughout the game, but UD's Guellermo Delgado was able to take advantage of a defensive miscue for the game-winner. It was his league-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Seahawks lead their all-time series with Charleston by a narrow 5-4-1 margin. UNCW edged the Cougars last season in Charleston, 1-0, behind a goal from Jack Ward early in the second half. CofC stands at 2-6-1 overall and dropped its conference opener to Northeastern, 1-0, last weekend.

The Seahawks visit James Madison on Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
