Seahawks Head Into Finale Looking To Clinch CAA Top Seed

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer regular season will conclude this weekend, but seedings for the upcoming championship tournament are far from being sorted out with four teams within a point of each other for the conference lead.

The Seahawks visit Drexel for a 4 p.m. start on Saturday and with a win and a tie between Elon and Delaware, UNCW will win its third CAA regular season title and first since 2009. UNCW can finish anywhere in the standings from first to fifth.

UNCW carries a two-game winning streak into the regular season finale after edging then first-place Hofstra last weekend, 2-0. Freshman Brayden Smith scored what would be the eventual game winner against the Pride and was named CAA Rookie-of-the-Week for the second time this season.

Drexel, who has been eliminated from contention for the championship tournament, stands at 5-9-3 overall and 1-5-1 in the league. The Dragons have dropped their last three and five of their last seven. Although struggling, Drexel has upended the Seahawks in each of their last two encounters.

The Seahawks can earn a bye to the semifinals if they finish second and will host a first round game should they finish either third or fourth.

Saturday's game will be streamed by Dragon TV at the link listed above.
