Tribe Blanks Seahawks, 2-0, In CAA Women's Soccer Test

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – William & Mary scored early and then tacked on another goal just prior to intermission to blank UNCW, 2-0, in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Friday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Tribe won for the seventh time in eight outings to improve to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the CAA, winning their first conference road game of the season. The Seahawks dropped their third straight match and fell to 5-6-1 and 0-3-0.

W&M leading scorer Samantha Cordum staked the Tribe to a quick 1-0 advantage when the junior forward from Boise, Idaho, gathered in a ball on the right flank and rocketed a shot past UNCW goalkeeper Liisa Rahkola at 4:39 for her team-best seventh goal of the season.

Senior defender Emily Fredrikson then increased the margin to 2-0 with a textbook volley on the right side after Rahkola punched the ball out at 40:25.

The Tribe outshot the Seahawks, 8-1, in the opening 45 minutes, but UNCW built a 5-1 edge after halftime in the tight contest.
