Volleyball Falls In Three To Blue Hens

DELAWARE 26-24, 25-18, 25-22

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – One night after topping defending conference champion the College of Charleston, UNCW was on the wrong end of a sweep as Delaware rolled past the Seahawks, 3-0, on Thursday at Hanover Hall.

The loss snapped UNCW's four-match winning streak and dropped them to 15-6 and 5-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, evened their record at 11-11 on the season and 4-3 in the conference.

Meredith Peacock led the Seahawks with 11 kills in 17 attacks for a .588 hitting average, but no other Seahawk finished with more than six kills. UNCW hit .099 on the evening (32-20-121).

For UD, Katie Hillman fashioned a double-double with a match-high 13 kills and 13 digs, while Autumn Jenkins added 10 kills.

Defense keyed UD's sweep as it outblocked UNCW, 10-7, and finished with a 63-42 advantage in digs. Leading the way upfront was Alexa Swan with five total blocks and Taylor Hollingsworth held match-high honors with 24 digs.

Up next: The Seahawks close out their three-match homestand with Towson on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Notes: UNCW fell to 6-3 at home and 9-4 in sweeps … Kristen Powell added seven kills and four blocks or the Seahawks … Freshman Sarah Kelly led UNCW with a career-high tying five blocks … UNCW hit .056 combined in sets two and three … The Seahawks were outblocked for just the second time this season (9/20 vs Radford, 10-4).
