Towson Outslugs Seahawks In Five Sets

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Saitaua Iosia's 26 kills outdueled UNCW's Nicole Lott's 21, as Towson edged the Seahawks, 3-2, in a five-set thriller on Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Hanover Hall.

The Tigers ran their record to 19-3 overall with the victory and 6-2 in the CAA. The Seahawks saw their record dip to 15-7 and 5-3 with their second straight loss at home.

Iosia finished with a .353 hitting average in 51 attacks and recorded a double-double with 12 digs. Victoria Williams and Haley Pa'akaula added 14 and 12 kills, respectively, as the Tigers hit .314 for the match. TU also outblocked the Seahawks, 10-5-6. It was just the third time this season UNCW had been outblocked.

Lott, who set a career-high with her 21 kills, hit .409 (21-4-44) on the match and was joined in double figures by Morgan Kline, who had 12 kills. Freshman Sarah Kelly tied her career-high with five blocks.

With the Seahawks leading 8-7 in the fifth set and the teams switching ends, Towson went on a 6-1 run that gave them a 13-9 advantage. Keying that deciding run was a pair of attack errors by UNCW and a TU ace from Pa'akaula.

In the deciding fifth set, Iosia saved her best for last as she had seven kills in 13 attacks.

Up next: The Seahawks head to Hofstra for a 7 p.m. first-serve on Oct. 24.

Notes: UNCW has lost consecutive matches for just the second time this season … Meredith Peacock, who was ranked sixth nationally in blocks for UNCW managed on block on the night … Pa'akaula held match-high honors with 16 digs as TU held a 53-42 advantage … No Seahawk finished in double digits in digs … Sarah Kelly also added a season-high five kills in seven attacks.
