Seahawks Open Homestand With Sweep of Defending CAA Champion CofC

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Meredith Peacock was one of three Seahawks with eight kills and she added a match-high seven blocks as UNCW swept defending Colonial Athletic Association champion College of Charleston on Wednesday at Hanover Hall.

UNCW improved to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the league with its fourth consecutive win. The Cougars, meanwhile, dipped to 13-9 and 5-2. The victory snapped a seven-match losing streak to the Charleston by the Seahawks, dating back to 1997.

Joining Peacock with eight kills were Morgan Kline and Nicole Lott. Kline added seven digs and four blocks.

UNCW used its game at the net and rode strong serving to the win. The Seahawks outblocked CofC, 11-4, and forced the Cougars into 30 hitting errors.

Sloane White held match-high honors for CofC with 10 kills as the Cougars hit just .024 on the evening (33-30-127). Maddie Hill had seven kills in 16 attempts without an error (.438 havg).
Andi Zbojniewicz recorded a match-high 24 digs for CofC while Morgan Owney and Victoria Phillips led UNCW with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Up next: The Seahawks host Delaware on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m.

Notes: Setters Victoria Phillips and Alyssa Desjardins handed out 14 and 13 assists, respectively … The Seahawks improved to 6-2 at home and 9-3 in sweeps … The match opened a four-day stretch where UNCW will play three matches … Peaock raied her block total to 109 on the season and is averaging 1.54 blocks per set … Desjardins had three of UNCW's five services aces on the night … Five of CofC's six starters hit in the negatives.
