CAA Newcomer Elon On Tap For Men's Soccer On Wednesday

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – With the regular season winding down, 18th-ranked UNCW returns to the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Wednesday when it hosts Elon at 7 p.m. in a key Colonial Athletic Association game.

The Seahawks enter the game with a record of 9-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference. UNCW returns home after a posting a 1-all draw at James Madison last weekend. Mark Harris scored the lone goal for UNCW in the contest when he converted a rebound in the 29th minute.

Elon, meanwhile, earned its first CAA victory in impressive fashion with a 5-0 drubbing of Northeastern last Saturday. The five goals were a season-high for the Phoenix, who are in their first season under the direction of head coach Chris Little.

The game shapes up to be defensive battle between the top two defensive teams in the conference. Elon, who has posted seven shutouts this season, leads the nine-team circuit with a 0.79 goals against average while the Seahawks are second at 0.86. Both teams also ranked first and second in the league in fouls committed.

UNCW senior midfielder Jamie Dell ranks second in the CAA in both points with 15 and goals with seven. Dell holds the conference lead and is tied for the national lead with five game-winning goals.

The Seahawks will look to contain James Brace of Elon, who leads the team with five goals, including four game-winners.

UNCW returns to action next at Northeastern on Oct. 18 with a 6 p.m. start.
