Lott Too Much For Phoenix With Double-Double

ELON, North Carolina – Nicole Lott's 14 kills and .323 hitting average led UNCW to a 3-1 win over host Elon on Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Alumni Gym.

The Seahawks improved to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in the CAA. The Phoenix, who are in their first season in the league, dropped to 5-16 and 0-5. For UNCW, it was their third straight road win and now stand at 9-3 away from Hanover Hall.

"Elon certainly fought well and found some weaknesses that we need to work on next week, but any road win in the CAA is a good one," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Nicole (Lott) and Meredith (Peacock) were consistent at the net attacking and overall out entire team did a great job blocking."

Lott's 14 kills were a match high and she was joined in double figures by Morgan Kline, who finished with 10 kills. Meredith Peacock added seven kills in 22 attacks.

UNCW used its power up front, outblocking the Phoenix, 13-7. Peacock finished with seven blocks, one short of tying her season high. Freshman Sarah Kelly and Lott added a career-high five blocks apiece.

Ally Karle paced Elon with 10 kills, but UNCW stymied Elon, allowing just a .120 hitting average and forcing 30 hitting errors. Setter Sydel Curry doled out a match-high 30 assists.

Up next: The Seahawks open a homestretch this week where they'll play three matches in the span of four days. UNCW opens the stretch with defending conference champion College of Charleston on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Notes: The Seahawks moved into a tie with College of Charleston for second in the CAA with 4-1 records … UNCW leads the all-time series, 14-11, with their third straight win in the series … UNCW's 13 blocks were one short of tying its season-high of 14 against NC State … Lott led the Seahawks in kills for the fourth time this season.
