UNCW Gets Key Road Point In 1-All Tie At James Madison

HARRISONBURG, VirginiaMark Harris scored his first goal of the season as UNCW picked up a point in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 1-all draw at James Madison on Saturday.

The Seahawks moved to 9-2-2 overall with the draw and 2-1-1 in the CAA. The Dukes, who topped #21 Delaware earlier in the week, moved to 5-4-3 and 1-0-1.

"I am pleased to pick up a point on the road tonight against JMU," said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney.  "They are strong side and have been in good form. Our players had to face some adversity and I thought we adapted well and had to dig deep. Both teams had good spells during the game and a tie was fair to both teams. We now look forward to facing Elon at home Wednesday."

Harris gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when he converted a rebound off a shot by Jamie Dell. For Dell it was his first assist of the season and for Harris it was his second career goal.

JMU answered, however, in the 38th minute on a failed clear by UNCW following a corner kick. The ball was played into the box where Connor Coward was able to knock home his second goal of the season and tie the game at 1-all.

UNCW finished the game with a 19-12 advantage in shots, but managed just six on target. JMU finished with four shots on goal.

Kyle Morton finished with five saves for the Dukes while UNCW's Sam Williams posted three saves.

Up next: The Seahawks host Elon on Oct. 15. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Notes: Sam Williams made his season debut in goal for UNCW … Harris' first career game came last season in a win against Mercer … Dell now has 15 points on the season to lead the Seahawks … UNCW moved to the top of the CAA standings with seven points after Northeastern and William & Mary lost Saturday evening.
