Since the summer of 2019, Dr. Michael Gordon has served as UNCW’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), an NCAA-mandated liaison position created to support student-athletes and help them better communicate with faculty and the athletics department.
Dr. Gordon also serves as an ex-officio member on the Faculty Athletics Council (FAC), a committee of UNCW faculty dedicated to improving the Seahawk student-athlete experience.
Dr. Gordon is Associate Professor of Spanish and teaches Masters and undergraduate courses on Golden Age Spanish literature and civilization, as well as seminars in English in the Honors College and Graduate Liberal Studies program.
In the spring of 2017, Dr. Gordon directed UNC Charlotte’s “Semester-in-Spain” program in Santander, Spain, and he encourages student-athletes to seek out opportunities abroad.
Dr. Gordon received his B.A. in Spanish and History from Duke University, his M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College, and his Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Gordon lives in Wilmington with his wife Giulia Orvieto, an instructor of Italian at UNCW, and daughters Rachele, Sara, and Gloria.
