Christa Macsay

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Former collegiate standout and veteran college coach Christa Macsay enters her 10th season at UNCW after joining the program in 2016-17 as a volunteer assistant coach.

Macsay will work with head coach Hans Olsen and assistant coach John Ware on various aspects of the program.

"I’ve known Christa for many years and she’s truly a great fit for our team,” Olsen said. “Christa brings knowledge of the game, tremendous coaching experience and a love for tennis. More importantly, she’s a wonderful person with great character and a passion for team-building.  We’re excited to have Christa as an important part of our program."

Macsay was an outstanding player at Georgia, leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA postseason in all four seasons in Athens. She helped the Bulldogs claim the 2000 and 2021 Southeastern Conference Championships and the 2000 NCAA Championship. Georgia finished in the top five nationally each season while Macsay was with the program.

The former nationally-ranked collegiate player remains one of just five tennis letter winners in Georgia’s history to receive the UGA Lewis Leadership Award presented to students who are the embodiment of dedication, motivation, discipline, positive attitude and who seek the good of the group above personal gain.

Macsay began her coaching career with Olsen at N.C. State from 2003-04 before taking a similar position at her alma mater from 2004-06. The Bulldogs finished as high as No. 9 in the country during her time at Georgia. She also worked at Army from 2011-14 and helped the Black Knights win the Patriot League women’s tennis championship in 2012 and 2013.

Macsay and her husband, Dan, have three children: Daniel, Hannah and Luke.
