Sean Donahue 2018-19 Headshot

Sean Donahue

Sean Donahue completed his fourth season as a member of the Seahawks' women's soccer coaching staff in 2021.

Under Donahue's tutelage, the Seahawks have qualified for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament in each of the last three seasons, including a berth in the 2021 championshipgame. UNCW has also authored a 37-19-3 record during Donahue's time in the Port City, including the 2021 CAA regular season title.

In addition, Donahue worked with the CAA's Goalkeeper of the Year in two of the last three seasons. After Sydney Schneider won the inaugural award in 2019, Blair Barefoot was named the league's top netminder following the spring 2021 campaign.

“Sean checked every box we wanted for this position,” said Head Coach Chris Neal. “Our program needs a coach with successful experience training goalkeepers at the NCAA Division I level. We also need someone that is highly capable of helping the team in the analytics and video areas.

“In addition to these qualities, Sean brings tremendous energy to our team culture. We’re very lucky to have him on board.”

Donahue, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., joined the Seahawks after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant coach at Jacksonville State. During his two seasons at the Ohio Valley Conference school, Donahue mentored Caroline Robinson into one of the top goalkeepers in the OVC.

In 2016, Robinson authored a 1.36 goals against average while ranking among the NCAA leaders with 1,590 minutes played. As a senior last year, Robinson started all 18 contests and finished with a 1.51 goals against average and four shutouts.

Donohue is a 2016 graduate of the University of Alabama and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in physics and mathematics as a National Merit Scholar.

A three-year starter at West Forsyth High School, Donohue earned all-conference and all-region distinction three times and was a honorable mention all-state selection in 2011. He was also a product of the North Carolina Fusion, one of the top clubs in the state.
