Former UNCW women's soccer standout Caitlin Hunter begins her second season as a member of the Seahawks' coaching staff.

“Caitlin brings tremendous energy to our team culture,” Head Coach Chris Neal said. “She won a Colonial Athletic Association championship here in 2009 and still brings that mindset and intensity to training each day. She will be instrumental in the mental and physical development of our goalkeepers. I feel very lucky to have her on our coaching staff.”

Hunter, from Ashburn, Va., started 64-of-66 games for the Seahawks from 2009-12 and finished as the program’s all-time leader with 29 victories. She also ranks second in the program’s annals with 349 saves and .810 save percentage while her 14 career shutouts are third in school history.

The two-time All-CAA selection garnered Second-Team notice as a senior after setting a program record with an .857 save percentage while her 126 saves rank fourth on the Seahawks’ all-time single-season list. In addition, she earned a spot on the 2009 and 2012 CAA All-Tournament Teams and was a two-time pick as the league’s Player-of-the-Week.

After graduating from UNCW, Hunter was an assistant coach at Campbell for one season before spending time as the head girl’s soccer coach at Park View High School and Riverside High School.

Hunter also served as an assistant coach for the girl’s varsity soccer team at Wilmington’s John T. Hoggard High School and as a goalkeeper coach for the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.

Hunter, who earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Physical Education from UNCW in 2013, will be a teacher at Mary C. Williams Elementary School during the upcoming school year. She is also working toward a Master’s of Education degree from Coastal Carolina.
