Steven Rhodes begins his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the UNCW women's basketball team during the 2015-16 season.
In his position, Rhodes plays a key role in the day-to-day operations of the program, including serving as the program’s film coordinator while overseeing the team’s student managers and assisting with facilities, travel and game day matters.
Rhodes joined the Seahawks program after three seasons as head coach of the boy’s program at Neuse Charter Middle School in Smithfield, N.C. During his time with the program, Rhodes led the squad to an undefeated record of 46-0 and three regular season and conference tournament championships. He also played a prominent role in his player’s success in the classroom, closely monitoring the academic progress of his student-athletes.
Rhodes also gained extensive experience on the AAU circuit, spending five seasons as an Assistant Program Director and Head Coach with the Cleveland PRIDE Basketball Organization. During that time, Rhode assisted in the development of a top-level travel basketball program for up to 5 different teams while also organizing numerous basketball tournaments hosted by program. His work helped the PRIDE enjoy unparalleled success as they captured two USSSA NC state championships, one USBA NC state championships, one USBA SC state championship, and one USSSA national championship during his time with the program.   Â
A native of Clayton N.C., Rhodes received his Associate’s Degree from Johnston Community College in 2011. He is a 2014 UNCW graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sport Leadership & Tourism Management.
