Former Wake Forest University staff member Jason Eshbaugh is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Seahawks’ women’s basketball program.
A native of Mercer, Pa., Eshbaugh served as director of basketball operations on Coach Adell Harris’ staff during the 2012-13 season before being promoted to his current position. As an assistant coach at UNCW, he serves as the team’s offensive coordinator in addition to being responsible for scouting and gameday preparation.
In his first season as an assistant, Eshbaugh helped mentor one of the youngest teams in the nation that featured six freshmen in its rotation. Junior guard Kelva Atkins earned second team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors and was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team for the second straight year while freshman Brie Mobley was an All-Rookie Team pick.
Eshbaugh made his way to the Port City after eight seasons with the Demon Deacons where he served as the director of player development and scouting for the 2011-12 season after handling the Director of Basketball Operations duties for the program during the previous seven years. His responsibilities with Coach Mike Peterson’s staff included game film and opposing player personal breakdowns, assisting with official recruiting visits, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the team and the scheduling of games and practices. He also played a key role in the development of content for the Wake Forest women’s basketball recruiting website.
Eshbaugh joined the Demon Deacons after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant for the University of Kentucky women’s basketball program. His duties at Kentucky included film exchange and video scouting.
Prior to his time at Kentucky, Eshbaugh spent one season as the assistant coach for the varsity men’s basketball team at Mercer Area High School in Mercer, Pa.
A 2002 graduate of Grove City College with a degree in business management, Eshbaugh earned his master’s degree in sports management from Kentucky in 2004.
