UNCW women's basketball Interim Head Coach Tina Martin has tabbed Alex Louin as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.
Louin, a guard at Villanova from 2014-18, joins the Seahawks following one season with the Fordham men's basketball team as a player development coach. Prior to her time with the Rams, she played professionally for two seasons in Europe.
"Alex reached out to me to express her interest in coming to UNCW," said Martin. "The enthusiasm she has along with her pedigree really stood out from the beginning. She's team orientated and an excellent teacher of our game. I loved that she's hard-working and is all-in on getting our program back to where we want it.
"Not only are we excited about her coaching ability, but the personality she brings off the court. She's knowledgeable and always comes in with a smile on her face. I know our girls are going to enjoy being around her."
Louin was a three-year starter for former Wildcats coach Harry Perretta. The Doylestown, Pa., native scored 1,432 points and collected 672 rebounds in 135 games, 96 starts, during her Villanova career.
The star guard piloted the Wildcats to three WNIT appearances from 2014-17 as well as the program's first NCAA Tournament berth in five years in 2018. Louin was a three-time Big East All-Conference honoree, including a Second-Team nod after averaging 11.7 points and 7.0 rebounds as a senior.
The well-rounded Wildcat produced eight double-doubles and 46 double-figure scoring marks while pacing Villanova in scoring as a junior and senior. Louin helped the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament victory in 14 seasons with a 10-point, 14-rebound effort in an 81-74 overtime thriller against South Dakota State in 2018.
"I'm thrilled to be working with Coach Martin, the staff, and players," said Louin. "The atmosphere being created here is really exciting and something I knew I wanted to be a part of. I'm excited to continue learning under a great leader. We're working hard to prepare our girls for the season."
