Zach Haines embarks on his sixth season on Coach Aidan Heaney’s staff and his second year as the Seahawks' associate head men's soccer coach after being elevated to the position in February, 2016.
The Seahawks have reached the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament in each of Haines' first five years in the Port City, including a pair of semifinal appearances in 2013 and 2014.
During the 2014 season, the Seahawks enjoyed an historic campaign after earning the CAA regular season title and recording the program's first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament. UNCW also claimed wins over four nationally-ranked opponents and spent much of the season in the national rankings.
In 2013, the Seahawks broke into the national rankings with a pair of impressive wins over Ohio State and Cincinnati in the Wolstein Soccer Classic before adding road wins at Duke and nationally-ranked North Carolina.
Haines came to the Seahawks from the Triangle Futbol Club, where he served as the Assistant Director of Youth Development. While with TFC, Haines coached the TFC U20 men's team to consecutive USL South Atlantic Division titles in 2010 and 2011 and a national championship final four appearance.
Prior to working with TFC, Haines was the head coach at East Chapel Hill High School for two seasons. During that tenure, he guided the program to a 30-10-3 record at the 4A level and was ranked 13th in the state in 2010.
Haines played at UNC before injuries shortened his career in 2006. He returned in 2009 as a volunteer where he audited training sessions and worked with game day operations. Haines graduated from North Carolina with a degree in Management and Society. He also holds NSCAA National, Advanced National and Premier Diplomas.
