Alex Langer completed his first year as a member of the UNCW men's soccer coaching staff during the 2020-21 season, helping the Seahawks compile a 5-3-2 record with a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
Langer, who hails from Stuttgart, Germany, joined the staff following two seasons as the starting goalkeeper at Lenoir Rhyne. While with the Bears, Langer made 34 consecutive starts.
“We are pleased to welcome Alex to UNCW and our Seahawk Soccer family,” Coach Aidan Heaney said when Langer joined the staff. “He will work directly with our goalkeepers and share his passion and knowledge for the position with them.
“Alex will also be involved with other aspects of our program, including contributing to team selection, recruiting, team travel, community service and social media. He is organized, communicates well and is prepared to work hard, so I believe he will be a great fit for our players and program.”
As a senior, Langer helped the Bears to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents, including a nine-save effort in a shutout victory at second-ranked Young Harris.
“I’m really thankful and happy that Aidan and UNCW are giving me this great opportunity to start my college coaching career,” Langer said. “It makes me proud to be a part of the Seahawk family.”
