Mongero completed his second season on the Seahawk coaching staff in 2025 following a three-year career at shortstop for UNCW.
During his three seasons, Mongero earned All-CAA, ABCA All-Region and CSC Academic All-America honors and helped the Seahawks a pair of CAA Championship game appearances and the 2023 Conference tournament championship.
The Seahawks set a school record in 2024 with a fielding percentage of .976 while committing just 55 errors. UNCW ranked seventh nationally with 58 double plays turned.
He started 154-of-156 games played over the course of his career and hit .295, scored 93 runs and knocked in 77. In the field, he fielded .954 and committed just 29 errors in 635 total chances. In 2022, he set a UNCW program record for shortstops with a .961 fielding percentage.
Mongero, who began his collegiate career at Gardner-Webb, played at the College of Central Florida in 2020 before transferring to UNCW.
Mongero’s father, Trent, was a two-year starter for UNCW and was the CAA Player of the Year in 1989.
