Chris Moore

Chris Moore completed his eighth season with the Seahawks in 2025, overseeing the program's hitters and assist in recruiting efforts.

In 2025, UNCW reached the conference tournament championship game for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons and qualified for the postseason for the 39th consecutive season.

Tanner Thach (first team), Brock Wills (second team) and Kevin Jones (second team) were All-CAA award winners. Trevor Lucas was named honorable mention All-CAA.

Thach led the lineup with a .325 batting average and 12 home runs. His 46 runs batted in were second. During the season, Thach, who already was the program's career leader in home runs (54) also became the record holder with 189 RBI's. He also was second with 429 total bases and fourth with a 596 slugging average.

The Seahawks continued to swing the bats well in 2024, combining for a .279 batting average and 86 home runs and scored 430 runs, ranking fifth on the program’s single-season list. The 86 home runs were third most in program history.

Leading the charge offensively were Tanner Thach and Trevor Marsh, who were honored as CAA Co-Player of the Year and CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Performer, respectively. Thach set both the single-season and career home run marks in 2024 with 27 and 42 roundtrippers, respectively.

UNCW drew 299 walks in 2024, ranking third in program history, and were hit 83 times, missing the school-record of 84 set in 2008.

In 2022, UNCW led the Colonial Athletic Association with 71 home runs, the fifth highest single-season total in program history, as well as slugging average (.452) and sacrifice bunts (42).

Brooks Baldwin was named the league's Player of the Year after leading the circuit with a career-high .347 batting average, 13 doubles and 11 home runs. Baldwin ranked among the conference-leaders in runs scored, doubles, home runs, slugging average and stolen bases with 16. Ethan Baucom and Taber Mongero joined Baldwin as first-team All-CAA selections while Chris Thorburn was a second-team honoree at designated hitter.

The Seahawks excelled at the plate in 2021 finishing third in the CAA in batting average while featuring a balanced offense that saw UNCW ranked second in home runs (53), third in stolen bases (58) and second in sac bunts with 33.

Baldwin earned the Seahawk triple crown with a .325 average, 15 home runs and 45 runs batted in. He was joined on the All-CAA squad by Cole Weiss and Matt Suggs, both first-teamers, and second-team honoree Kip Brandenburg.

Baldwin was selected in the 15th round by the Giants, but returned to school for the 2022 season.

Although short, the 2020 Seahawks had a penchant for clutch hitting and working at bats. The highlight of the season at the plate was the season finale win as UNCW walked-off nationally-ranked East Carolina, 5-2, on a three-run homer by Matt Suggs.

Cole Weiss continued to lead the Seahawks offensively, hitting .305 and slugging .441 in just 59 at bats. Freshman Ron Evans was named CAA Rookie of the Week after hitting .545 over the course of opening weekend, homering twice.

In 2019, the Seahawks had a dynamic offense, led by Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Greg Jones, who was also a two-time All-America honoree. Jones ranked among the national leaders win several offensive categories, including runs scored, on base average, triples and stolen bases. Jones was selected in the first round with the 22nd pick overall by the Tampa Bay Rays, becoming the program's highest draft pick.

Joining Jones on the CAA's first-team were infielder Cole Weiss and outfielder Kep Brown. Both posted career-high seasons with Weiss hitting .305 with four home runs and 49 runs batted in and Brown hitting .273 and led the team with eight home runs and 53 RBI's.

Jackson Meadows (2b) and Noah Bridges (OF) were second-team selections.

Moore, who graduated from New Hanover High School in 1995, comes to the Seahawks after serving on coaching staffs at various levels, including three seasons as head coach at Lander University. He most recently served as an assistant at Georgia Southern from 2013 through 2015. Prior to that, he was the recruiting coordinator at Appalachian State as the Mountaineers moved into the highly competitive Sun Belt Conference.

Following his prep career, Moore attended and graduated from Western Carolina where he was a two-time All-America and four-time All-Southern Conference selection. In 1999, he was named Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year while setting program records for hits, doubles and runs batted in.

Moore was drafted in the 11th round by the Colorado Rockies in 1999 and played four seasons in the Rockies' organization before joining the coaching ranks.

His first stop was Davidson in 2003 and in 2006 he was named an assistant at Lander in Greenwood, S.C. Following one season as an assistant, he was elevated to head coach for the next three, leading the Bearcats to a top-20 national rankings his final season.

Moore coached one season at West Georgia before joining the coaching staff at Appalachian State. At ASU, Moore helped the Mountaineers to a school-record 41 wins in 2011 and their first SoCon Championship since 1987 and their first NCAA Regional appearance since 1986.

Moore and his wife, Aimee, reside in Wilmington with their children, Carter and Lillee.
