UNCW Head Coach Ann Hancock
On game
“Tonight’s game was different than most games we play in that we didn’t any film on them. So, instead of focusing on them, we tried to focus more on ourselves.”
“We talked about doing three things that we need to do in order to be successful tonight. One was rebounding, which we did. Another was getting to the free-throw line and keeping them from scoring from the charity stripe, which we did. The third was getting the ball inside, which we didn’t do well in the first half, but we improved on in the second half.“
Greta (Luksyte) did a good job tonight of shooting from the outside, which will make it harder to team’s to focus on our post players. Candace (Walker) had a nice game getting
get to glass.”
On team’s early rebounding success
“We have talked about this season, but a lot of it has come naturally. Candace (Walker) Brittany (Blackwell) have had a huge impact in our success on the boards this season. We definitely missed Candace’s rebounding ability last season and Brittany has come in and played like no other post player that I have coached here in regards to her desire to attack the glass.
On winning back-to-back road games early in the season
“It helps with the buy-in process for our younger players. They are starting to understand what our game-day routine is on the road and how that helps us prepare for our opponents. The wins also help the whole team believe in the system and more importantly, believe that we can be successful away from home. A lot of times, winning and losing on the road comes down to believing in both yourself and each other and when your not successful early, doubt creeps in.”
