UNCW Blanked As CofC Wins Series

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Charleston's Carson Bryant and Parker Sweeney combined for a two-hit shutout as the College of Charleston knocked off UNCW, 5-0, to win a Coastal Athletic Association series on Sunday at Brooks Field.

With the series win, the Cougars ran their records to 22-24 overall and 12-12 in the CAA. The Seahawks, who have now dropped four of their last five conference series, slide to 26-20 and 14-10.

Bryant's seven innings and seven strikeouts were career highs as he improved to 2-3. Sweeney finished off the shutout with five strikeouts in two innings of relief.

Jacob Amman had three hits to lead CofC at the top of the order, while Landon Penfield doubled twice and plated three runs. All five CofC runs came with two outs.

Connor Marshburn (4-4) was saddled with the loss despite striking out a career-high-tying none over 5.2 innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk.

Trevor Lucas and John Newton had UNCW's only hits on the afternoon as the Seahawks struck out 12 times. It was the first time the Seahawks were shut out this season.

The Seahawks next host High Point on May 5 at 6 p.m.
