Relay Tallies Five Hits on Sunday

ATHENS, Georgia – Junior Cassidy Relay totaled five hits over two games on Sunday as the UNCW softball team closed out play at the Bulldog Classic with a pair of setbacks to South Alabama and host #11 Georgia at Turner Softball Stadium.

The Jaguars (13-7) used a four-run fifth inning to build a lead and then staved off a late Seahawks (8-9) rally to earn a 6-4 win before the Bulldogs concluded the weekend with a 9-1 run-rule victory over UNCW.

South Alabama carried a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh before five straight UNCW players reached safely, highlighted by RBI singles off the bats of Relay and freshman Emily Whitwell.

The Seahawks brought the tying run to the plate following an Allison Corbin sac-fly, but Sydney Scapin converted the two-out save following Tori Miller's (1-0) 6.1 innings of work.

UNCW's Camille Hamilton (3-2) tossed 4.1 innings in the setback.

A trio of walks put the Seahawks up 1-0 in the first inning against Georgia, but the Bulldogs totaled seven runs over the next two innings and added a pair in the fourth for the five-inning win.

Georgia leadoff hitter Keirstin Roose launched two home runs, including a two-run four-bagger in the second inning, while right fielder Sarah Gordon added a solo shot of her own.

Reliever Randi Roelling (7-3) earned the win with three scoreless innings while UNCW's Makayla Huddleston (2-5) was on the losing end of the decision.

The Seahawks host Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
