Seahawks Finish Strong at Northeastern

BOSTON, Massachusetts – In a game that featured 15 lead changes and 13 ties, the UNCW men's basketball team scored 21 of the game's final 31 points to earn a 87-78 victory over Northeastern at Solomon Court at the Cabot Center on Thursday night.

The Seahawks upped their Coastal Athletic Association record to 4-0 and 15-2 overall in their first appearance at the Cabot Center. The Huskies fell to 1-3 in league play and 5-10 in 2025-26.

Six Seahawks reached double figures, led by Patrick Wessler's CAA-leading eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Seniors Nolan Hodge and Madison Durr scored 17 and 14, respectively, and combined to go a perfect 19-of-19 from the free throw line.

Another trio of seniors – Christian May (11), Greedy Williams (11) and Noah Ross (10) – combined for 32 points.

Northeastern's Youri Fritz scored a game-high 21 points while reserve Xavier Abreu contributed 15 points.

Trailing 68-66 with under five minutes to go, Hodge flipped the advantage at the line, sinking seven straight free throws over a 1:39 span to put the Seahawks up five, 73-68, with 2:58 left in the game.

The Huskies made it a single-possession game twice in the final 2:37, but UNCW drained nine shots from the charity stripe and went 30-of-34 from the line overall to secure the win.

Northeastern raced out to an early 24-17 lead in the first nine minutes of the game before the Seahawks rattled off a 25-9 run to flip the advantage, 42-33, with 2:13 before halftime, including six straight points by May.

The Huskies, however, briefly made it a one-possession game with seven straight points in the first half's final two minutes. A Williams jumper at the buzzer gave the Seahawks a 44-40 edge at halftime.

UNCW closes out its two-game northern road swing on Saturday at Stony Brook at 6 p.m.
