It's A Sweep For UNCW To Close CAA Play

ELON, N.C. – UNCW extended its winning streak to six games on Sunday with a 9-5 win at Elon completing a Coastal Athletic Association sweep at Latham Park.

UNCW, which will be the second seed at the conference tournament next week, closes out the regular season with a record of 32-22 and 19-8 in the CAA. The Phoenix (24-30, 13-14) will be the sixth seed.

UNCW built a 5-0 lead in the second with Brock Wills and Tanner Thach knocking two runs apiece on a single and double, respectively.

Cam Bagwell (9-2) was credited with the win, going five innings. He tied the program record for wins by a freshman. Bagwell allowed a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out five.

Cyle Phelan notched the save, his third, closing out the ninth.

Offensively, Mac Gillespie knocked in two runs on two hits and was joined by Aidan Evans and Kevin Jones with two-hit outings.

Declan Lavalle (3-6) took the loss for Elon. He surrendered four runs, all unearned, in 1.2 innings.

Kenny Mallory Jr. had three hits, including his fourth homer of the season for the Phoenix.

The Seahawks open their conference tournament run on May 22 at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
