Huddleston Matches Career-High With Seven Strikeouts

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Makayla Huddleston matched her career-high with seven strikeouts in UNCW's 4-1 Coastal Athletic Association softball series-opening setback to visiting Stony Brook on Friday night at Boseman Field.

The Seawolves won their 12th straight league contest and stand 20-19 overall with a 14-5 league mark. The Seahawks fell to 9-10 in the conference and are 23-19 on the season.

The game was a pitcher's duel between SBU's Crimson Rice (9-5) and Huddleston (12-8), who traded scoreless frames until the top of the sixth when the Seawolves scored four runs on six straight singles.

An Arial Pearce lead-off triple to start the bottom of the seventh was cashed in two batters later on a Cassidy Relay (who had two hits) RBI groundout before Rice induced a groundout on the next batter to complete the game.

The series resumes on Saturday at 4 p.m.
