CLINTON, S.C. – No. 71 UNCW men's tennis posted its seventh straight victory, shutting out Presbyterian, 7-0, after a rain delay in the regular season finale on Friday afternoon at Templeton Center Tennis Courts.
The Seahawks earned their second straight shutout, finishing the regular season 10-7 overall and 3-0 CAA, while Presbyterian dropped to 5-14 after the non-conference battle.
Harold Huens and Lukas Steffen posted their fourth straight win in No. 3 doubles, with a 6-3 triumph over Eduardo Valentin and Denim Yadav.
Jordi Domenech and Joseph Wayand, the defending CAA Doubles Team of the Week, clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory in No. 1 doubles against David Mamalat and Evgenios Vasilakis. The pairing won their sixth straight match to move to 7-1 on the season.
Wayand won his eighth straight match and extended his team-leading singles wins total to 12, defeating Daksh Prasad, 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.
In No. 1 singles, Huens, the reigning CAA Player of the Week, tallied his sixth straight win and the 49th of his career. The senior defeated Mamalat, 6-0, 6-1, for his 10th win of the season.
Steffen clinched the match for UNCW in No. 5 singles with his 10th win of the season, outlasting Vasilakis 6-3, 7-5.
Trey Mallory cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Valentin in No. 4 singles for his fourth win of the season.
Jordi Domenech earned his sixth consecutive win, recording a gutsy three-set victory in No. 6 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0, prevailing in the deciding 10-point tiebreaker, 10-5.
In No. 2 singles, Sam Nicholson won his seventh straight match to seal the Seahawks victory with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 triumph over Pedro Cardoso for his 10th win of the year.
