ATLANTA – Senior Harold Huens earned his first ranked win of the season in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 against No. 104 Nate Bonetto as UNCW men's tennis was narrowly edged, 4-2, by No. 56 Georgia Tech at Ken Byers Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks fell to 3-3 on the season, while No. 56 Georgia Tech improved to 6-3.
Huens, the reigning Coastal Athletic Association Player of the Year, improved to 4-1 in No. 1 singles.
In No. 2 singles, senior Sam Nicholson held a 7-5, 4-0 lead against Gabriele Brancatelli before the match went unfinished.
Junior Lukas Steffen improved to 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Richard Biagiotti.
The Seahawks nearly pulled off two ranked upsets in doubles play to begin the match. Huens and Alex de Gabriele fell to No. 33 Krish Arora and Christophe Clement in No. 1 doubles, 6-4.
Jordi Domenech and Joseph Wayand had a 5-2 lead against No. 19 Nate Bonetto and Gianluca Carlina in No. 2 doubles before the match went unfinished.
