Women's Tennis Defeats Presbyterian 5-2

CLINTON, S.C. – UNCW women's tennis defeated Presbyterian 5-2 at Templeton Center Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon, earning their first win of the 2025 season. With the loss, Presbyterian dropped to 3-9. 

"We worked hard at our mental approach today," head coach Hans Olsen said. "It was a good match with Presbyterian. Both teams played every point to the end. Proud of our effort today. Go Hawks!"

The Seahawks won the final two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In No. 1 doubles, juniors Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak defeated Madison Dennett and Valentina De Sousa, 6-3.

Senior Stela Joksimovic and sophomore Alicia Eberwein clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 triumph over Claudia Sanchez and Elle Sceney in No. 2 doubles.

Arli earned her first singles win of the season. After dropping the first set 6-1, Arli rallied back to claim the final two sets 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.

After a win at No. 5 singles against William & Mary last Sunday, Albayrak improved to 2-0 on the season with a three-set victory (6-2, 1-6, 6-3) against Dennett in No. 4 singles. 

Sophomores Lucia Gomez and Alex Borcich also earned their first victories of the season. Gomez had a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 5 singles against Sceney, and Borcich defeated Mary Ellen Longmire in No. 6 singles in 6-2, 6-1.
