#17 Duke Powers Past Seahawks, 8-4

A pair of 2-run homers for Duke highlighted the sixth inning

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Alec DeMartino collected three hits to lead UNCW, but nationally-ranked Duke plated four runs in the sixth inning to knock off the Seahawks, 8-4, on Tuesday at Jack Coombs Field.

The Blue Devils evened their record at 2-2 while the Seahawks dropped to 2-3.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Duke used a pair of two-run homers by Kyle Johnson and Ben Miller to grab a 5-2 lead.

Bromley Thornton added two hits and knocked in a run for the Seahawks, who held a narrow 2-0 lead going into the fifth inning.

UNCW reliever Ty Lawson (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs over 2.1 innings.

Ryan Calvert (1-0) was credited with the win for Duke in relief.

UNCW hosts UNC Asheville beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series.
