Five Seahawks Reach Double Figures in Season Opener

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Five players reached double figures as the UNCW men's basketball program opened its 75th season of play with a 106-77 victory over Mount Olive on Monday night at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks started 2025-26 at 1-0 before an over-capacity sellout of 5,220 fans. The game was an exhibition for the Division II Trojans.

Newcomer Patrick Wessler notched his first career double-double with career highs in both points (17) and rebounds (14) to go with a career-best four blocks. Steady senior Nolan Hodge matched his career-high with 21 points, led by a personal best four three-pointers.

Senior Madison Durr delivered 18 points off the bench, including a 9-for-9 showing from the free throw line. Starters Greedy Williams (14) and Noah Ross (13) completed Head Coach Takayo Siddle's 19th scoring quintet in six seasons.

Four UMO players surpassed 10 points: Jaevian Alston (14), Matt Kirby (13), Redford Dunton (12) and Raul Perez (10).

UNCW broke a 9-9 game at the 17:17 mark in the first half, opening with a 32-9 stretch that included 10 unanswered points to make it 41-18 with 7:47 left until halftime.

The Seahawks, who hung their 2025 CAA Championship banner before tip-off, extended the lead to 62-33 at the intermission and led by as many as 39 in the second half as 10 players contributed points.
UNCW next prepares for its road opener at Kent State on Monday, Nov. 10. The Seahawks and Golden Flashes have only met once previously during the 2008-09 season.

GAME NOTES: UNCW leads the all-time series 7-0 against UMO … The Seahawks opened against the same opponent for the third straight season for the first time in program history … UNCW has won three straight season openers for the first time since 2015-17, the last time it began three straight seasons at home … UNCW shot 52.1 percent from the floor and outrebounded UMO 53-32 … Williams' 14 markers were one off his career-high … It was the sixth November sell-out in Trask Coliseum history … UNCW is 7-1 when scoring more than 100 points under Coach Siddle … This was the earliest UNCW has started a season … Hodge scored over 20 points for the second time in his career … UNCW scored over 60 points in the first half for the fourth time under Coach Siddle … Trask Coliseum has been sold out in its previous eight games.
