GREENVILLE, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore guard Kylah Silver tallied 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the 82-63 season-opening setback for UNCW women's basketball at East Carolina on Monday night.
UNCW dropped to 0-1 on the season while East Carolina moved to 1-0.
After missing the 2024-25 season with an injury, Silver, a Greenville native, recorded the second double-double of her career and tied her career-high of 38 minutes played.
In her first career game and start, freshman forward Icyss Storm added 13 points and six rebounds in her collegiate debut, the most points by a UNCW freshman in a debut since Silver scored 17 back in 2023.
Rori Cox, a graduate guard, also scored in double figures for the Seahawks. Cox scored all 10 of her points in the second half and recorded six rebounds and four assists.
Torin Rogers, a redshirt junior forward, chipped in with eight points and five rebounds in her UNCW debut after missing all of last season with an injury.
UNCW led 35-34 at halftime after East Carolina jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the first quarter.
East Carolina stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring UNCW 25-14 in the period to regain a 10-point lead. The Pirates started the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run to secure the victory.
UNCW outrebounded East Carolina 39-30 in the game, but the Seahawks committed 27 turnovers in the contest.
The Seahawks will hit the road for a matchup against NC Central (0-1) on Friday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
