GREENSBORO, North Carolina – Senior Carrigan Ewers fashioned a career-high nine strikeouts but host North Carolina A&T edged UNCW, 2-1, in the Coastal Athletic Association softball series finale at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex on Sunday.
The Lady Aggies avoided the sweep and moved to 9-29 overall with a 3-15 league record. The Seahawks saw their six-game win streak come to a close and are 23-16 and 13-5 in the CAA.
Both teams totaled six hits with UNCW's Cassidy Relay recording the only two-hit performance.
With the game tied 1-1 through three-and-a-half innings, N.C. A&T's Jamari Moss homered on a 1-1 count to break the deadlock and help the Lady Aggies snap a seven-game losing skid.
Senior Tayler Vitola drove in UNCW's lone run of the contest in the top of the third after N.C. A&T's Avery Evans drove in the first run of the game in the second inning on a single of her own.
Ewers (2-6) scattered six hits in five innings while Lady Aggies starter Sharla Kirkpatrick (4-11) went the distance on 95 pitches.
The Seahawks host East Carolina for a mid-week game on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
