WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Evan Miller scored a game-high 18 points, but a strong third quarter helped Delaware spoil the UNCW women's basketball team's home finale, 81-51, on Thursday night at Trask Coliseum.
The Blue Hens moved to 11-18 and 7-10 in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Seahawks stand 5-23 and 3-14 in the CAA with both teams having one regular season contest remaining.
Miller was joined in double figures scoring by redshirt freshman Taylor Henderson's 13 points. Henderson has now surpassed 10 points 18 times this year.
Delaware's Nakiyah Mays-Prince (14), Tara Cousins (13), Sydney Boone (12) and Chloe Wilson (12) combined for 51 points, including 36 in the second half.
UNCW scored 19 of the game's first 29 points and carried a 19-14 lead into the second period. Henderson and Miller combined for 12 points in the opening quarter with Miller draining a pair of three-pointers.
The Seahawks held its advantage throughout the second quarter save for a 5-0 Delaware spurt that tied the game at 24-24 with 1:48 to go before halftime. The deadlock remained until sophomore Mary Ferrito nailed an off-balanced jumper as time expired to put UNCW in front 26-24 at the intermission.
Delaware then rattled off a 15-3 run to start the third quarter to build its first double-digit advantage, 39-29, at the 5:11 mark. UNCW brought the deficit to within single digits twice in the ensuing minutes, but the Blue Hens answered both times.
The Seahawks close out the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday at defending league champion Monmouth.
