Men's Tennis Hands #48 Delaware First Loss

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW rolled past 48th-ranked Delaware, 4-1, on Wednesday at the UNCW Tennis Complex in a meeting of the top-ranked ranked programs in the Coastal Athletic Association.

The Seahawks, who were ranked 71st entering the week, upped their record to 9-5 overall and 6-1 at home. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, dropped to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 on the road.

UNCW made quick work of singles play and clinched on court four on Gabe Hurtado's 7-6, 6-0 victory over Alexandre Gluck. Hurtado improved to 8-3 with the win and into a tie for the team lead in wins.

Beka Rasamatov tied the match at 1-all with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Delaware's Javier Ruiz and Trey Mallory gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead at fifth singles. Mallory sailed past UD's Ismail Saadi, 6-4 and 6-1.

Harold Huens followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at number one singles before Hurtado's win to close it out.

The Blue Hens came out strong winning the double point behind victories by Udayan Bhakar and Gluck at third doubles, 6-0, and Tobey Locke and Euan Mackenzie clinched the point, 6-4.

UNCW hosts Drexel next on Mar. 29 at 1 p.m.
