Sales Shines Again As UNCW Splits Two

MOBILE, Ala. – RJ Sales limited South Alabama to a run on one hit over seven innings in a 4-1 win for UNCW in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Stanky Field.

The Seahawks (6-5) finished with a split on the day with the Jaguars (9-2) holding off the Seahawks for a 4-3 win in the nightcap.

Sales, who improved to 3-0 with the win, walked three and fanned six while seeing his earned run average move to 0.92 through 19 innings.

Connor Marshburn earned his first save with two innings of hitless relief.

After tying the game in the fifth on a wild pitch, the Seahawks grabbed a 3-1 lead in the sixth on Alec DeMartino's first home run of the season. DeMartino added an RBI single in the eighth for a 4-1 lead.

In game two, the Jaguars were able to take advantage of a pair of walks, a passed ball, and a UNCW error to score twice and build a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning.

Jacob Shafer (0-3) was saddled with the loss for UNCW.

Cam Hill (2-0) earned the win for USA, allowing an unearned run over five innings of four-hit ball.

The series wraps up on Sunday with first-pitch set for 2 p.m. EST.
