Seahawks Clicking On All Cylinders In 13-2 Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Martin Zelenka homered twice, and Jacob Shafer held Charlotte to two runs over eight innings as UNCW tied its weekend series with the 49ers on Saturday with a 13-2 win at Hayes Stadium.

The Seahawks raised their record to 10-9 with the victory while the 49ers slipped to an identical 10-9 mark.

Zelenka drove in four runs and was one of four Seahawks with three hits in the game. John Newton and Trevor Marsh both had three hits and scored twice. Alec DeMartino added three hits, scored three runs, and knocked in two.

Tanner Thach belted his ninth homer of the season, a three-run shot in the first, and added a two-run single later in the game.

Shafer (1-3) earned the win with a season-high eight innings. Shafer scattered eight hits, walked two and struck out five. He recorded 12 ground ball outs.

Carson Bayne had three hits for the 49ers and was the only player with a multi-hit afternoon.

Trey Baker (2-1) took the loss for Charlotte, allowing four runs on six hits over 1.2 innings.

The series concludes with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
