Hammock Blanks George Mason, 2-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Kara Hammock struck out nine in a one-hit shutout of George Mason as UNCW opened its weekend tournament on Thursday with a 2-0 win at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks improved to 6-4 with the win while the Patriots dropped to 2-7.

Both runs came in the Seahawk first inning on a double to short rightfield by Mackenzie Amodeo. Skylar Stockton led off the inning being hit by a pitch for the eighth time this season. Tayler Vitola moved Stockton into scoring position with a walk. Both runners stole bases to set the stage for Amodeo.

Hammock earned the win to run her record to 3-2 while Carly Cooper (1-4) was saddled with the loss for Mason.

The Seahawks host Kent State on Friday at 7:30 p.m
