Men's Soccer Takes Down #16 Monmouth, 3-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Three second-half goals lifted UNCW to a 3-0 win over 16th-ranked Monmouth on Saturday in Coastal Athletic Association men's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks ran their record to 5-7-4 on the season and 4-3-0 in the league. Monmouth, meanwhile, suffered its first conference loss of the season and fell to 4-1-3 in the CAA and 8-2-5 overall.

Christian Acevedo opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, his third of the season, off a feed from Osei Gyamfi.

The Seahawks would score twice in an eight-minute span to break the game open. Josef Hefele made it a 2-0 advantage with his fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute off a corner from Jack Clarkson. Bryan Miralrio capped the scoring at the 79:01 mark with this second goal of the season off an assist from Ethan Newsome.

Trey Smiley and Bennett Jones combined on UNCW's fourth clean sheet of the season.
