Seahawks Roll Past Camels, 69-58

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW trio of Taylor Henderson, Evan Miller and Mingaile Urmuleviciute combined for 47 points as the Seahawks led wire-to-wire in Friday night's 69-58 victory over Campbell in Coastal Athletic Association women's basketball action at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks improved to 3-13 with a 1-4 CAA mark. The  Camels dipped to 8-8 with a 1-4 record in the circuit.

Henderson led all scorers with 17 points while adding six rebounds and six assists. Urmuleviciute's 15 points represented the second straight game the sophomore forward has reset her personal best.

Miller equaled Urmuleviciute's total while redshirt freshman Sammy Ackles corralled a career-high 10 rebounds.

Campbell's Brittany Staves contributed 15 points while sophomore Gianni Boone added 12.

UNCW set the tone early with the game's first four points and raced out to a 14-4 lead less than five minutes into the first quarter. Five different Seahawks scored in the opening period that concluded with UNCW in front 16-11.

A back-and-forth second quarter saw the Seahawks carry a 34-27 advantage into halftime. The Camels, not to be deterred, mounted a comeback late in the third quarter after an Urmuleviciute made it 41-31 with 4:52 in the period.

Campbell then scored 13 of the contest's next 17 points, including six unanswered, capped by a Brittany Staves three-pointer that made it 45-44 with 41 seconds to go. Ackles then hit a jumper in third period's final moments to give the Seahawks a 47-44 lead with 10 minutes to go.

UNCW quickly regained its double-digit lead at the start of the fourth quarter with seven straight points. The teams traded baskets for much of the period before Miller and Henderson each sank a pair of free throws within 21 seconds of one another to give the Seahawks their largest lead of the game, 64-51, with 1:33 left.

Henderson drained four more free throws within the final 40 seconds to put the game on ice and give UNCW its first CAA victory of the Nicole Woods era, 69-58.

The Seahawks travel to Hampton for a 2 p.m. tipoff on Sunday at the HU Convocation Center.
