CONWAY, S.C. – Duke's MJ Metz homered three times and knocked in five as the Blue Devils defeated UNCW, 12-3, in game one of the Conway Regional on Friday at Spring Brooks Stadium.

Duke (36-21) halted a four-game losing skid with the win while the Seahawks (34-22) saw their season-high six-game winning streak come to an end.

The Blue Devils will face the winner of the Coastal Carolina/Rider game on Saturday at 6 p.m. UNCW, meanwhile, will take on the loser of that game at noon.

Duke collected 10 hits in the game with all 10 being extra-base knocks. Joining Metz with hitting home runs were Jay Beshears and Damon Lux. Tyler Albright doubled twice.

Charlie Beilenson (5-3) earned the win in relief, striking out four in 2.2 innings of hitless baseball.

Sophomore Bryan Arendt doubled twice for UNCW and Trevor Marsh slammed his 12th homer of the season.

UNCW starter Jacob Shafer (7-5) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over three innings.

How it happened: Duke grabbed a 4-2 lead with a three-run fourth inning. Metz opened the frame with a homer to right center and later in the inning, Lux homered to center with a man on to make it 4-2. UNCW cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, but Metz's second homer of the day, a two-run shot, made it a 6-3 lead.

Notes: Fifteen of the game's 17 hits were of the extra base variety … Both teams walked a single hitter … UNCW fifth-year senior Jason Hudak, the only player remaining from UNCW's last regional appearance tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning in his regional debut … Seahawk pitching hit six batters, tying a season-high set against Campbell (Apr. 18) … UNCW has lost its tournament opener seven times, but has managed to win at least one game 10 times.
