Women's Basketball Adds Wisconsin Transfer

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW Women's Basketball Head Coach Nicole Woods has announced the addition of combo guard Mary Ferrito to the Seahawk program for the 2023-24 season.

Ferrito, a Plain City, Ohio, native, comes to the Port City after spending her freshman campaign at Wisconsin.

"I am super excited to have Mary as my first signee as a Head Coach," said Woods. "I often say that relationships are my superpower! Mary is a product of those relationships. She's a top-notch person first and foremost and an even better player.

"She will provide versatility at the guard spot and an unparalleled work ethic and toughness. I am excited to get to work with her on my team!"

The 5-10 guard made four appearances for the Badgers, including her debut vs. Bradley, where she pulled in two rebounds.

Before her year in Madison, Wisc., Ferrito was a prep standout at Jonathan Alder High School, earning two First-Team All-Conference selections under Coach Allen Eggleston.

Ferrito, a team captain, was honored as the Central Buckeye Conference Player of the Year and appeared on the All-State Second-Team after averaging 18.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.9 spg and 2.5 apg as a senior.

Ferrito becomes the first addition to the Seahawks following the appointment of Woods to lead the program in mid-April.
