Seahawks Complete Back-to-Back Victories

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team used its depth in singles to blow past visiting Longwood, 4-1, on Saturday at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks are now 6-2 on the season and stayed perfect at 5-0 in home matches. The Lancers stand 3-6 this spring.
 
Longwood rallied from an early deficit to capture the doubles point when the No. 1 team of Emma Nurgazieva and Karina Rizvanova outlasted UNCW's Lauren Gish and Eda Arli, 7-6 (4).
 
But UNCW responded with wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to nail down the non-conference win. Senior Anna Daniels served up the clincher when she rallied past Longwood's Sophia Marchetta, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 position.
 
The Seahawks next travel to Orlando this week for a spring break trip. Coach Hans Olsen's club takes on rival East Carolina on Wednesday, Mar. 8, at 11 a.m. and then battles Western Carolina on Thursday, Mar. 9, at 11 a.m. Both matches are being held at the USTA National Campus.
 
UNCW's next home match takes place on Sunday, Mar. 12, at 11 a.m. vs. Virginia Tech.
