Inter Miami CF Selects Casas in MLS SuperDraft

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW men's soccer midfielder Pep Casas was among the 87 players to hear their names called during the 2024 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Tuesday night.

Casas, a 2023 Coastal Athletic Association Second-Teamer, was selected in the third round (61st overall) of the MLS Draft by Inter Miami CF. It marked the second straight year Miami has drafted a Seahawk after selecting Bachir Ndiaye in last year's draft.

"What a moment for a kid from Barcelona, Spain to be drafted to the same organization as Messi," said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. "We are delighted for Pep to be able to begin his professional career in this country. Inter Miami recognizes his abilities and I believe he will be a wonderful fit for Inter.

Casas is the sixth UNCW men's soccer alum to be drafted into the MLS, joining Daniel Roberts (2012), Colin Bonner (2016), Phillip Goodrum (2020), Danny Reynolds (2020) and Ndiaye (2023).

A Barcelona, Spain, product, Casas, who was also named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Atlantic Region Second Team in early December, scored two goals and contributed an assist across 16 games, including 15 starts, in 2023.

The 5-10 midfielder arrived in Wilmington two seasons ago as a transfer from Indiana Tech, where he helped the Warriors to the NAIA Quarterfinals.

Casas became a mainstay in the Seahawk midfield over the previous two seasons, appearing in every possible game (33) while making 30 starts.

Casas was one of three CAA players to be drafted on Tuesday night among a pool of nearly 400 players across the nation.
