ELON, North Carolina – Elon's Scott Vatne scored a goal in the 53rd minute to turn back UNCW in the Coastal Athletic Association men's soccer regular season finale at Rudd Field on Saturday night.

The Phoenix (5-8-3, 3-3-2 CAA) secured the final CAA Championships berth with the win. The Seahawks finish 2023 with a 6-6-4 overall record, including a 1-4-3 CAA mark.

The two in-state conference rivals combined for 33 shots in the tightly contested match that featured 10 shots on goal by UNCW. The Seahawks held an 8-6 advantage on corner kicks.

After a scoreless first half, Elon's Calle Edelstam played a ball forward to Vatne, who booted the ball into the net to provide the Phoenix the lone goal of the contest.

Graduate goalkeeper Jacob Randolph recorded six saves, the second-highest total of his season.
